I worked with two peers to write learning objectives and a script to meet the needs of our client, the Whatcom Community College Library.
Video Tutorial
This library tutorial helps learners differentiate between stages in scholarly publishing including preprint, postprint, and ahead-of-print. It highlights tensions between the potential to speed up science offered by preprint servers and the quality assured through the peer-review process. I produced and edited the tutorial using Reaper, iMovie, and Canva.
To support accessibility, I created an SRT file with captions for the tutorial, and selected b-roll footage that represents diverse researchers and environments. Because I produced this tutorial while campus was closed during COVID-19, I relied on existing media that is licensed for educational use.
I sought to balance the relevance of the speed vs. quality conversation during the COVID-19 pandemic with an evergreen description of the scholarly publishing stages to extend the shelf life of this tutorial past the current moment.
